Each year our teams clear an average of 35,000 blockages caused by cooking fats, oils and grease (FOG) and other unflushables.
With over 71,500 Food Service Establishments (FSE's) trading in our region they're one of the highest produces of FOG and contributors to blocked pipes.
80% of these blockages are avoidable which is why we're working together with FSE's. Putting preventative methods in place to protect their premises, local community and environment from blockages and sewer flooding.
Find out how you can stop FOG entering the sewers to help protect the environment from risks of flooding. Visit our Working together page to request a visit from our Network Protection team.
Legislation
Not only do we want to work together to protect local communities and the environment, but it is also part of UK legislation. It’s a criminal offence under section 111 of The Water Industry Act 1991 to release anything into the public sewers that could interfere with the free flow of wastewater.
