Prevent costly blockages, nasty smells and sewer flooding.
Wipes might flush as fast as they clean but they don’t break down like toilet paper and are causing blocked pipes. Every day in our region a whopping half a million wipes are flushed – that’s 9,500 packets in the sewers.
Small changes make a big difference. Explore our bathroom tips to protect your pipes, local community and environment – all part of our Just Bin It campaign to prevent blockages and flooding.
Pop a bin in your bathroom
It’s a simple reminder to put wipes and other rubbish in the bin and only flush the 3Ps: pee, poo and paper. Using a bin liner makes emptying the bin quick and simple too.
Bin all wipes
Even wipes that say they are ‘flushable’, ‘plastic free’ or ‘fine to flush' belong in the bin, because they don’t break down like toilet paper.
Wrap and bin sanitary products and nappies
Using the wrapper it came in, some toilet paper or a disposal bag, wrap up sanitary products and nappies before putting them in the bin.
Make the switch to reusable sanitary wear
Using reusable sanitary pads is great for the planet—they help cut down on the amount of plastic waste that would otherwise end up in landfills.
Try out a wipe alternative
Get the same fresh feeling by switching to alternative toilet paper sprays or gels – this one from Wype pumps straight onto toilet paper and is fully flushable.
Other ways to save money
Preventing a costly blocked pipe is just one way to protect your pocket – you can save money by using less water too. A leaky shower or toilet can often go unnoticed, but even a drip can waste money and thousands of litres of water a year. Find out if you have a sneaky leak with our handy video.
