Every day our teams work hard to make sure there is enough water for everyone, both now and in the future. And with the additional demands of more homes being built, our flat and dry landscape and the effects of climate change, there’s even more pressure on our water resources.
That's why we’re working on projects to protect the future of water:
Leading on leakage
We have the best leakage record in the UK - but we’re not stopping there. By using state-of-the-art leak detecting technology we can find even the most hard to find leaks underground. From satellites and drones to sniffer dogs, we're committed to driving down leaks.
Thinking smarter
We’re fitting over 1,000 smart meters every day, so almost everyone will have one by 2030. Not only does this help customers save water and only pay for what they use, but it will also help us identify leaks faster.
Connecting all homes to water
We’re building one of the largest infrastructure projects in the UK with hundreds of new connecting pipes. This will reduce the amount of water taken from the environment, by connecting the driest areas to multiple water sources. Explore more about how we're doing this here.
Building two new reservoirs
We're progressing plans for two new reservoirs – one in Lincolnshire, and another in the Fens. Having these new water resources will help make us more resilient to climate change. This project forms part of our long-term Water Resources Management Plan, which looks 25 years ahead and build on decades of existing investment. Keep up to date with the progress here.
