As part of our Alliance partnership project, we’ve designed and sponsored two courses run by the College of West Anglia in Wisbech. This will increase our region’s skill pool and enable us to offer apprenticeship interviews with our Alliance partners.
It began with the Wisbech 2020 programme. Following discussions between us, our suppliers, Fenland District Council, Cambridgeshire County Council and the local MP, we agreed the challenges Wisbech faced were greater than other areas. A national index measuring: health, education, crime, income, employment and housing & services barriers found Wisbech has four of the eight most deprived areas in the UK, placing it among the top 10% nationally.
By getting involved in the Wisbech 2020 project, we knew we could make a difference in education and employment
The courses
BTEC Level 3 extended Diploma in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering (two year course).
City and Guilds Level 2 in Construction and Utility Operations (one year course).
You’ll be given everything you need to succeed; access to specialist lecturing, plant and materials, mentoring, site visits and work experience. Once you complete the course, you’ll have a clear understanding of your potential career paths and the foundation skills and behaviours wanted by our partners.
Employment
If you’re successful at interview stage you’ll be employed for two years as an apprentice with one of our Alliance partners. And as you’ve completed one of the above courses, we know you’re competent from day one.
